I recently entered a discussion on Kingfisher population in Nova Scotia. Using the website here: http://www.rmbo.org/pif_db/laped/PED3.aspx There is a estimated 16,000 Belted Kingfishers in NS. Would anyone happen to know if there is more reliable estimates? Is there comparisons of Belted Kingfisher populations in NS over the years? Is the population thought to be declining or expanding now? Also, on the HRM website for the coat of arms, it says that the Kingfisher is there as a "symbol of industry", but I could not find out how or where it became a symbol of industry, or if other locations use it for the same symbolic purpose. Any ideas? Cheers, Peter
