The NS Wild Flora Society November meeting will be held Monday, November 26, 2007 at the NS Museum of Natural Hostory, Summer St. Halifax. Speaker: Dr. Ian McLaren, professor Emeritus at Dalhousie University. Ian spent much time in the eastern Canadian Arctic during the 1950s and '60s. To quote from the WFS newsletter, "In summer 1951, through a series of lucky circumstances, I found myself aboard the motor-ketch "Calanus" exploring the marine biota of Ungava and Frobisher Bay - my first of 12 wonderful seasons in that marvellous part of Canada. Although I was mostly a committed birder, Lewis McIvor Terrill, well-known Montreal naturalist, had urged me to collect a representative series of flowering plants for his private collection, which I did. Subsequently I collectd some for the McGill University and National herbaria, but did not really become "hooked" until I spent four months with my wife Bernice at a remote campsite on Frobisher Bay. Bernice paid much more attention to the local plant, and collected many more." .......... So come and hear the rest of Ian's story entitled "FINDING AND PHOTOGRAPHING FLOWERING PLANTS IN NUNAVUT, 1951-1964" Monday evening at 7:30 in the auditorium of the museum. Everyone welcome and bring a friend!
