The November meeting of the Halifax Centre of the RASC (Royal
Astronomical Society of Canada) will be held Friday, November 16th at
8:00 PM in Room L176 of the Loyola Building at Saint Mary's University.

(A map can be found at the Centre's web site; see below.)

Members of the public are welcome. Attendance is free.

This meeting will feature:

"Digital SLRs for Everyday and Astronomical Use"

The November meeting will feature Digital Single Lens Reflex Cameras,
an increasingly common tool used by amateur astronomers. This topic
will be presented by three speakers:

John Liddard will present an introduction on Digital Single Lens Reflex
cameras including daytime/general use with comments on piggyback
astrophotography.

Blair MacDonald is going to cover photography through the scope. He
will do a short comparison of the various camera types, settings to use
on your DSLR, how to connect to the scope, how to acquire the image, a
little on the processing workflow and some internet resources and
software recommendations.

Roy Bishop will describe aspects of the detector chips used for
imaging, advantages and disadvantages of digital imaging, comment on
megapixel hype, and recommend what camera to buy (Roy says he is
unbiased because he does not yet own a digital SLR)!

Also, we will be having group discussion of Comet Holmes observations.
