Hi all
Yesterday afternoon, Nov. 4, I birded the Pictou, Waterside PP and Caribou I. areas. Not much evidence of storm related birds except a storm petrel that was spotted between Waterside PP and the Caribou ferry terminal. The Petrel spent most of the time sitting in the water and was at some distance. It flew a few meters a couple of times, but not enough for me to identify it. I would not have seen it except it appeared as I was scoping a flock of goldeneye. Steve Vines reported the Great Egret was at Big Island. I had a report through the week of a white heron at the marina in Pictou but I did see it yesterday.
Here are some highlights:
Pictou Harbour Common Tern-1
Haliburton Gut- Hooded Merganser-130 Great Blue Heron-1
Waterside PP
Greater Yellowlegs-1
Black-bellied plover-4
Sanderling-18
White-rumped Sandpiper-13
Semipalmated Sandpiper-1
Canada Goose-400
Common Goldeneye-50
STORM PETREL SP.-1 likely Leaches
Lapland Longspur-2
Horned Lark-25
Snow Bunting-30
Bonaparte's Gull-125
Great Blue Heron-1
Red-throated Loon-20+ hard to count in the waves
Braeshore Pine Grosbeak-8
