Oct. 2, 2007 - In our Wolfville yard this morning, a SONG SPARROW was living
up to its name by repetitively SINGING.

At our Wolfville feeders now, there are at least 10 song sparrows, 2
white-throated sparrows, 4 blue jays, a white-breasted nuthatch, a downy
woodpecker male, plus goldfinches, black-capped chickadees, a red squirrel,
crows, etc.

Oct. 3, 2007 - At the Canning Aboiteau at 3 p.m. (mid-tide, rising), a
PEREGRINE FALCON flew over from east to northwest.

Oct. 6, 2007 - One female N. CARDINAL at our Wolfville feeder (second
sighting over several days). Bill and Brenda Thexton are still seeing 4
CARDINALS (2 adults, 2 juveniles) at their feeders in east Wolfville.

And JAPANESE KNOTWEED still in bloom.

Oct. 7, 2007 - On the Grand Pre dykelands, roosting in a field with 100+
HERRING GULLS and a few GREAT BLACK-BACKED GULLS, was an adult LESSER
BLACK-BACKED GULL (seen well by Pat Hawes and myself).

Oct. 9, 2007 - In mid-afternoon on the Acadia Univ. campus, I was lucky to
be in the right place at the right time, just north of Univ. Hall, when a
CUCKOO flew across the driveway very close to me. It landed in an elm tree
(one of the few left on campus). I walked a few paces to the tree and was
treated to excellent close views of a juvenile YELLOW-BILLED CUCKOO, without
my binoculars, as the bird appeared to have something in its bill and
allowed my close approach.

At our Wolfville feeders, a female hairy woodpecker, a male and f/imm PURPLE
FINCHES, 4+ blue jays, 2 white-throated sparrows, 8+ song sparrows, etc.

Cheers :-) from Jim in Wolfville, 542-9204
