Index of Subjects Dear All, Sept 13, 2007 I cut a Common Buckthorn (Rhamnus frangula) on Aug 22 & noticed that the bark still peeled off readily and was bright yellow inside. When simmered for an hour or so, bark chunks released a yellow dye that stained some cheesecloth bright yellow and this color is still present after two washings (no soap). The dye solution, after sitting in a glass container over several weeks became progressively darker and now stains cheesecloth brown with a hint of red. I wonder if this bark was used as a natural dye ? Yt, DW, Kentville
