The Reeve was still present at Three Fathom Harbour on Sunday, Sept. 2; it flew in to Shorebird Cove at 15:40, at roughly mid-tide on the falling tide, and stayed for about half an hour. I imagine that it is spending the majority of its time at the pond below the Willis property in Lower Three Fathom Harbour. It has undergone a fairly extensive moult of mantle, scapulars and wing coverts in the past four weeks and is now in fresh basic plumage. Ruffs apparently moult these feather groups at staging areas on fall migration, and typically moult their flight feathers after reaching their wintering grounds in Africa.

Also saw one Pectoral Sandpiper and one Baird's Sandpiper at Shorebird Cove today, both juveniles, among the flock of peeps and plovers. Mid-tide is the time for close looks at shorebirds at this cove.

Cheers,
Susann Myers
