Harmless shark closes N.S. beach By THE CANADIAN PRESS | 11:44 AM INGONISH ‹ Parks Canada closed a beach in Ingonish on Monday to swimmers as a precaution after a shark was spotted close to shore. Johah Mitchell, manager of resource conservation for the Cape Breton field unit, says it appears the five to six metre-long fish was a basking shark, which poses no threat to swimmers. The beach was re-opened today. AUDIO: Parks Canada official Johah Mitchell says it was a large, but harmless fish. The same harmless species of shark was seen earlier this summer at Black Brook Beach, also in the Cape Breton Highlands National Park. The shark was gone by the time park officials got there, but digital photos taken by beach-goers helped them make the identification. (CJCB)
