Hello Wild Flora,

I couldn't agree more, and being new to the nature list, I know that I'm on a learning curve, and you are so right, I should have looked it up. Really, odes & leps were the only abbreviations that I was having trouble with. Writing long Latin names to refer to a type flora or fauna, especially in the subject line, every single time would be so time consuming. I also must remember that this is a very learned group who post to the list, many being experts in this field, either amateur or professional naturalists.

Certainly, though, I have always had a love & interest of nature, I also have so much more to learn. I now look at every creature & plant I come upon with a little more knowledge & curiosity than ever before, thanks to this list, and I also say thank you to all, for answering my questions with patience and grace. :>)

  Best Regards,

  Gayle MacLean

Speaking as one of the less knowledgeable people on this list, I sincerely hope that none of the more informed list members is ever discouraged from posting by pressure to use words that everyone can understand. I am here to learn. If someone uses a word I’m unsure of I can always look it up (very easy on the Internet), figure it out, or if neither of those strategies works, rely on the generosity of the members of this list, who answer even the most uninformed questions with patience and grace. This is not in the slightest an imposition on me—on the contrary, looking things up and asking questions are part of my education.

Those of you who have knowledge to share—please continue to do so using whatever language is most convenient for you. Happily and with gratitude, I will make whatever effort is required to understand what you have to say.
