Friday when I opened up the umbrella on the deck a bat and I startled each other. It was having a snooze and I was looking for some shade. Friday night I lowered the umbrella again, and Saturday while we were at the dining table we watched seven bats emerge at dusk. As interesting as this is, the deck table did accumulate some droppings, so we've denied the bats their shelter the last couple of nights. As a matter of interest, there is a bat house attached to the south side of our house above the deck, but it appears to go unused. Doug Linzey Arlington
