This one is in the genus Dicerca, and although I would have to have the specimen and examine it under a microscope to be 100% certain of the identification, it is almost certainly Dicerca divaricata (Say), one of the two really common species of this genus in Nova Scotia. The larvae bore in the wood of a variety of hardwoods, including maple, birch, cherry, and elm.
