Dear naturalists on naturens,
I am writing to encourage you to register asap to attend the Nature
Canada national conference, *Time and Tide*. Only once in about a dozen
years can we attend a national conference like this without a lot of
travel expenses, a big environmental footprint, and a lot of money. For
the four of the past seven years I have planned on Nature Canada
conferences for my holiday/vacation. From Cornerbrook to Saskatoon,
Ottawa to Red Deer, it has always been worth while. The conference in
Wolfville at Acadia University campus from1-5 August this year will be
special, too. Time and Tide is a national conference which will bring
together many naturalists' groups and the general public from across the
country to meet with the board and staff of Nature Canada, government
representatives, Environmental Non-Governmental Organizations, nature
related businesses, Young Naturalists, and *you* - *the people here in
NS* who have an interest, curiosity and passion for nature. Please share
this with club members and friends. Everyone is welcome and a club
membership is not required. Check out our website and register before
25th July.

The speakers, presenters and trip leaders are all from or working in
Nova Scotia. Our special guest, Dr. George Archibald, is recognized
world wide as co-founder of the International Crane Foundation- "the man
who dances with cranes". The shorebirds should be at their peak then.
There are trips to the mud; bats, bugs and other critters to see;
plants, the Acadian forest, stars and the amazing Fundy tides about
which we can learn together. And much, much more.
The venue, the food, the accommodations are all first rate, but are
reasonably priced, thanks to the generosity of our sponsors. Most of the
field trips are free and are included in the registration package.
There will be Displays and time in which to visit them.
The Silent Auction will be filled with very special items - featured
will be an Alice Reed print of the Tobeatic, a hand carved Tern decoy,
an autographed copy of Earl Godfrey's _Birds of Canada_ , and a print by
Robert Bateman..
A Fenwick Lansdowne original painting of a Meadowlark will be on
display. It will be sold to a gallery or private collector by the end of
the year.
Each day will have a special event or musical entertainment. There will
be a kitchen party, a lobster supper, and a banquet supper. We are ready
to welcome you. See you there! Joan Czapalay
