All: I have just received my copy of the new "Peterson Reference Guide" (i.e., not a "field guide" - too big), "Gulls of the Americas," By Steven Howell and Jon Dunn (Houghton Mifflin 2007). My preliminary opinion (book not fully devoured yet) is that all lariphiles and also lariphobes (it may help) should have this wonderful book. It may even be more useful that than the recent book on N. Hemisphere gulls by Olsen and Larsson. It has numerous photos of all plumage stages (using the au courrant terminology of plumage "cycles") and includes hybrids and oddball plumages. Unfortunately, I do not have stocks in Houghten Mifflin, so this is an unbiased opinion [:>} Cheers, Ian McLaren
