Hi all: I spent 31 May-3 June on Seal Island, mostly cleaning out squirrel ?offerings? from the North Home, wrapping up some Atlas work (breeding-season counts of eiders, gulls and guillemots), and doing some casual birding. There was much merriment on the island in celebration of the end of lobster season. Not many forest birds about. I believe, with Eric Mills, that local nesters on Brier and Seal Island continue to arrive through early June. Some highlights were : a Bl-winged Teal nest with 4 eggs (this and other waterfowl were confirmed by FY last summer); a laggard 1st-summer Harlequin Duck off the S. End June 1-2 (up to 25 there this winter per locals); a Great Egret arriving early June 3; a Gray-cheeked Thrush, almost certainly aliciae from its very cold-plumage tones; 2 Indigo Buntings to June 2; and the first-ever (per locals) Common Grackle nest on the island (4 young hatched 28-29 May). Cheers, Ian McLaren
