Roland, Peter also wrote me to confirm it was an indigo bunting, although I haven't seen the fuzzy photo. Tell him that indigo buntings (and blue grosbeaks, too) are regular migrant overshoots every spring in Nova Scotia, but they belong further south and it is unlikely that any will linger past early summer? Cheers from Jim in Wolfville ---------- From: Roland McCormick <roland.mccormick@ns.sympatico.ca> Reply-To: naturens@chebucto.ns.ca Date: Wed, 30 May 2007 12:18:21 -0300 To: naturens@chebucto.ns.ca Subject: [NatureNS] Indigo bunting - Antigonish Just for the record - Peter's bird is a beautiful indigo bunting. He sent me a picture of it - a rather unusual out of focus picture, but the bird is certainly what he thought it was. It seems to be eating nyger seed - he says he is going to go out and camp on the front lawn so he can get a better picture of it. Peter is not a bird watcher, but he may be catching the fever. I told him I always thought the bird was usually seen in April and didn't stay to breed here - he wants to know where it is heading. Roland.
