Thanks again, Claire! Who's Dave? Gradual entries like you had over the
past two nights make it relatively easy to count them, eh? And it's nice
that the MERLIN just flew on by and didn't return. Cheers from Jim

Subject: swifts

Hi Jim,
Dave and I counted 313 swifts entering the Middleton chimney last night. We
arrived at 7:55 and birds were circling. Also a MERLIN flew over. He did not
return. At 8:15 the first 4 birds entered the chimney. By 8:40 they were all
in. We left at 8:45. The birds are going in in dribs and drabs and new small
flocks keep arriving over the roof. This is unlike some years when they
appeared to be sucked down like a small tornado. Weather was cool but very
clear with a wonderful sunset.

Claire
