Halifax Field Naturalists -- Sunday, May 27, 2007 - Cape Split Hike

Join David Dermott for one of HFN's favourite traditions - hiking the Cape Split Trail to see Mayflowers, trilliums, Spring Beauty, Dutchman's Breeches, Blue Violets, and many spring birds as well. If tides allow, we'll search the beach for agates, amethysts, and other interesting stones. Bring lunch, water, suitable hiking footwear, and clothing appropriate for the weather. Sometimes there are muddy sections.
      . Contact: Burkhard & Ingrid Plache 475-1129, or hfn.programme@gmail.com
. Time and place: For car-pooling from Halifax, meet at 8:00 a.m. at the Museum of Natural History parking lot. (Please use above contact to offer or request car-pooling) or at 9:45 a.m at the Cape Split trailhead. To get there: travel towards Wolfville on Hwy 101; take Exit 11 onto Hwy 358, and follow it north through Port Williams and Canning to Scots Bay (30-35 km from Exit 11); in Scots Bay, follow the main road to the end (a T-junction), then turn left, and follow that road along the coast to its end.
      . Duration: 5-6 hours; a 16-km round trip
      . Difficulty: Moderate to difficult
