Dear All,            May 9, 2007
    We have been hearing strange noises starting May 3 nearly every day;
like 20 buckshot being poured onto sheet metal. The strange noise turned
out to be a Flicker (Sooty-Shafted probably) hammering on the stainless
steel flue liner. It usually gives 2 or 3 bursts and moves on so it took
some time to narrow it down.

    We have not actually seen it hammering but the way it was hunched
low at the base of the metal pipe (top of chimney) this morning plus the
fact that we have twice heard this noise when the fire was on suggests
that it hammers the vertical pipe just above the brick chimney top. Will
check for dents/ scrapes when I clean it next month.

Yt, DW, Kentville
