All,

May and I did our Nocturnal Owl survey last night. About a kilometer from
our place, on the way to the first stop, a Black Bear crossed the
road...that was cool! We got to our first stop early and enjoyed Barred Owl,
N Saw-whet Owl and GH Owl while I recorded the weather data. Only the latter
two persisted during the first sample period though.

At the second stop there was a White-tail in the road, right where we had to
pull over. No owls there though.

We also had three porcupines during the survey. There were six Barreds (not
including the one who didn't hoot on stop one, nor the one perched at about
2 m high along the roadside between two stops), four NSWOs and one GHOW -
all above average except the latter, though below last year's peak.
