Index of Subjects

Very nice photo, Bernard!

As to its identification, very few Hermit Thrushes match all the field marks given in the many field guides. Sometimes the process of elimination works best. One can see it is not a Wood Thrush, Veery or Swainson's Thrush. However the Nfld. race of the Bicknell's Thrush can look like this (although the brown should look warmer?). The eye ring looks good for that race but the yellow should extend further out on the lower mandible. (perhaps second-year birds take longer to show this mark?)

Did it pump its tail?

Nevertheless I would call it a Hermit Thrush.

Angus

At 05:09 AM 4/26/2007, you wrote:

I photographed what I believed to be a Hermit Thrush close to the railroad tracks near Dartmouth Cove yesterday (Wednesday).
