Hi Bob and All
As with most garden schrubs, Daphne is quite variable
in genetic ancestors which affect form and blooming
time. So although climatic zone affects the blooming
time, it is possibly a different cultivar. As a rule
plant breeders select for early bloom, flower size,
maybe other factors. Not much chance of getting all
the best in one plant but as long as folks keep buying
6/49 tickets, plant breeders will try!
I just looked today and a package of azalea seed sent
by one of the 2005 tour group looks good. Every seed
must have grown. Another 7 - 8 years and I'll have
flowers!
Have a good spring
Paul
