Hi All
While canoeing this afternoon on one of the many
branches of the Lahave, a pair of raptors caught our
attention.
About crow sized, dark underneath with some lighter
areas underneath, hard to get the exact plumage as we
had no optical aids. Broad tails like fans and wide
wings which come near to a point at the end. Looked to
me like Broad Winged but I've been known to mistake
the various raptors.
Anyway they started at tree top level and soared
upwards in the warm breezey air until out of eye
range. A very pleasant sight.
We also saw a Wood Duck - came from over the water and
flew straight through the woods. Must have good
controls to do a trick like that!
Today Stone flies were their most abundant that I've
seen so far this year. It is interesting that they
must get washed down stream during the hatching
process and lay eggs pretty much where they find
themselves. Its a wonder the whole population doesn't
end up in the Atlantic! No May Flies yet.
Another nice spring day
Paul
