Hi All
This morning before the wind got up we paddled up Long
Lake Stream. A nice paddle with stillwaters, runs, and
portages. Good to get a little exercise paddling and
portaging.
Lots of flies, stone flies mostly and starting to be
some moths. No butterflies yet. Black ducks were
plentiful no doubt feeding on the stone flies.
Other birds of interest were a ruffed grouse drumming
- heard it both going and coming back. A Spruce Grouse
flew across the brook at one point just ahead of us.
Do spruce grouse drum like ruffed grouse?
There was a single male common merg. Lots of dead
trees with woodpecker holes so it looks like a good
nesting area.
Lots of sparrows along the stillwater - no way of
iding them but sitting on every dead stump.
Also a Grey Jay came around as we were planning lunch.
A good paddle before the black flies get out.
Enjoy the spring
Paul
