I had a male brown headed cowbird at my feeders this evening, a first for the deck. While watching it, I heard a thump at the rear of the house and went out to find a sharpie spread-eagled on the ground with what looked like a broken wing. I carefully picked her up with heavy work gloves on and gave her a few sips of water before placing her on the deck. She let me get a few nice close-up pictures before flying up to the roof for five minutes and then took off, apparently none the worse for wear, to the woods, unlike last week's poor ruffed grouse! I hope she didn't previously dine on that lovely, male rose breasted grosbeak, which has been here since last Friday, but which I last saw on the deck at 8 am this morning!
