12 April 2007 I thought I'd better enjoy the sunny day, in the face of the weather that tomorrow (and Saturday) are scheduled to bring. We walked out to the tip of Shag End, HRM. Land birds were scarce, but there was lots of activity on the water, with eiders, oldsquaw, loons, Red-necked Grebes, Red-breasted Mergansers. Most were on Blind Bay, which lies to the west of Shag End. The first Double-crested Cormorants have returned to their colony on Inner Gull Island in Shad Bay, and a group of four cormorants flew along and above the western shore of Prospect Peninsula, two Double-crested and two Greats. The Great Cormorants veered up and east, and were lost to view. The biggest surprise was seeing two Turkey Vultures gently soaring south above the "spine" of Prospect Peninsula -- ravens were surprised as well, as they, and a few crows, jumped into harassing mode. Hard to believe the weather tomorrow will be so foul. Cheers, -- No virus found in this outgoing message. Checked by AVG. Version: 7.5.446 / Virus Database: 269.2.0/757 - Release Date: 11/04/2007
