April 5, 2007 - On my drive to Halifax for the Hfx. Field Naturalists
meeting, on Lacey Lake (has been opening for several days, and perhaps a
third of the ice has gone) was a very probable COMMON LOON (identification
from the car at about 100 km/hr).

At the HFN meeting were the following nature reports: Joan Czapalay said
that near Yarmouth on March 31/07, SKUNK CABBAGE was in bloom, perhaps Nova
Scotiašs earliest native flowering species?; and Linda and Peter Payzant
reported that the Waverley ALBINO RED SQUIRREL had made it through the
winter all right.
