Hello all,

Piping Plovers have arrived in Nova Scotia! On March 30, Natasha Poirier observed two Piping Plovers foraging on a beach near Roseway, Shelburne Co., NS.

This spring and summer, Bird Studies Canada's NS Piping Plover Conservation Program will be working closely with Environment Canada-Canadian Wildlife Service, NS Dept. Natural Resources, dozens of volunteers, and other conservation partners to protect breeding Piping Plovers.

From now until fall, please keep your eyes out and let us know where and when you see Piping Plovers on beaches. Your keen observations help us to track the timing of migration, locate possible breeding birds, and organise beach protection efforts (e.g., volunteers on beaches) around the province.

If you, or someone you know, is interested in becoming more involved in Piping Plover conservation in Nova Scotia, please contact Bird Studies Canada (nsplovers@gmail.com). There are many opportunities to help - from assisting biologists to participating in outreach events to sharing plover-friendly tips with beach goers.

Despite the challenges facing this endangered species, every spring is a new opportunity to help recover of our little beach ambassador.

I look forward to hearing from you!

Thanks,
Sue Abbott, Bird Studies Canada
