Hi all, I received this note from Dave E. Harris this morning. Some of you who know the Minudie area may be interested. Dave is with DNR in Parrsboro, and has been a great help there with the bird atlas, GPS instruction, and nature notes in general. He is interested and knowledgable about many aspects of nature, and knows the local area well. Thanks,Dave, for the note. Cheers, Joan quote: "I was called to a large grass fire in Minudie that was reported as a forest fire by the RCMP but the woods will not burn now (will after a few good drying days perhaps). The hectarage of marsh burned was considerable , we (dnr) don't do grass fires but I was upset to see all of this Ringneck Pheasant / Bobolink nesting habitat burn so I stayed until 12pm putting out as much of it as I could for the birds. At 11pm I was stomping out fire along the edge of the woods about 1500m from the road when I heard a Great Horned Owl hoot behind me, this was the highlight of this ordeal for me."
