Hi all
Red-winged Blackbirds and Common Grackles made an appearance at my =
feeder on Friday Mar.23 and have been there off and on since. There =
have been earlier county reports in Westville. The Lark Sparrow was =
still singing from my back yard this morning, Mar. 26, after the sun =
rose enough to warm the bird up.=20
As I crossed the Pictou Causeway this afternoon ( Mar. 26), 2 =
Double-crested Cormorants flew over. and landed in the cornor by the =
Jitney Trail on the harbour side of the causeway.
A Great Cormorant was seen sitting on the pilings at Pictou Landing. At =
the spillway there are still quite a few ducks with about 1500 =
Red-breasted Mergansers and 1000 Greater Scaup. I was able to see a male =
Lesser Scaup with the group. More ducks were near the retreating ice =
edge but a little distant for good counting.
The harbour off the town of Pictou is open and and there is a good =
section of open water on inner bay south of the causeway. Ice has blown =
in to the mouth of the harbour north of the Pictou Landing bar.
cheers
Ken
