The Biology seminar for Thursday, March 22 will be titled:

=B3Sable Island, Natural History and Monitoring Programs.=B2

Zoe Lucas will give a talk introducing the terrain, flora, and fauna of
Sable Island. She will also review a few of the programs conducted on the
island, including beach surveys for oiled seabirds, stranded cetaceans and
marine litter, and long-term monitoring of the horse population.

Zoe explains that she first visited Sable Island in 1971, and has since

persistent litter in the marine environment, and shark predation on seals.
Long-term projects include study of Sable Island horses, and beach surveys
for oiled seabirds and stranded cetaceans. Results of research programs hav=
e
been published in various scientific journals. Since 2002 I've managed and
prepared text and images for the Sable Island website
www.GreenHorseSociety.com, and in 2004 became a Research Associate with the
Nova Scotia Museum.=B2

Seminars are held weekly, from 11:30 =AD 12:30 in PAT 308. Refreshments are
