Looking at a mixed flock of siskens, chickadees and goldfinches this morning in my Hantsport backyard I noticed an unfamiliar robin sized olive grey bird with a large bright orangeish bill under the feeder. After a pause i realized it was a very nice female northern cardinal - the first at my feeders. My bp was already going up from this when the male flushed from under some brush and joined her - a bright and diffused ball of red in my rose bush, very fine, both looking healthy and vigourous. Great way to start a weekend!
