Hello everyone,

Recently I have been working my way through back issues of the Nova Scotia Bird Society Newsletter and Nova Scotia Birds to find records of some bird species, and I found that not only is my set incomplete, but that there may be no major libraries in the Province that have complete sets. Unlike some other provinces, Nova Scotia seems to have no repository library to preserve copies of all the Province's publications, and seems to be relying on the National Library to do so. There are incomplete sets (according to their catalogues) at Acadia, Dalhousie, Cape Breton University, and NSAC libraries. I also learned, to my surprise, that the N. S. Museum of Science, which I thought surely would have a complete set, does not even have a library! I would recommend that the Executive consider providing a free
subscription to any of these university libraries that would be willing to assure that they will keep a complete set for reference by Nova Scotians.

Some of you will recall that Bernice Moores had a note in a Nova Scotia Birds issue of last year requesting certain issues that the Society needed to complete its set, and others may know that the NSBS welcomes donations of other back issues that may be resold to help others complete their sets. Thus it came as a shock when I heard last year of one member who had discarded his back issues, and recently of another who had intended to do the same.

There are likely others out there who may be thinking along similar lines, so I have prepared my want list, in hopes of getting to position to catch any of these being thrown out. This list probably has rules like most others prohibiting private sales or purchases, so I will not suggest that, but would be happy to exchange my duplicates with anyone having ones I need, or consider other possibilities through off-list contacts.

Here are the ones I need to complete my set: NSBS Newsletter / Nova Scotia Birds
