Yesterday I must say for the area and habitat covered was one of my worst days in about a year and a half. I only could come up with 26 species. This covered Dublin Shore, Broad Cove, Cherry Hill, Bridgewater, Mahone Bay, Oakland, Indian Point, Mader's Cove, Garden Lots Lunenburg and LaHave. Of note on the Luenburg waterfront was a black guillemot in full breeding plumage. I tried to make it into something else, but alas it was not to be so. At National Sea in Garden Lots I recorded one northern harrier. I'm sure that two hawks were present. I initially saw a hawk low to the tops of some coniferous trees along the ocean. My first thoughts were peregrine falcon, but it dropped out of sight. I turned the car around and took another look and coming back the other way I see a northern harrier. This drops out of sight and up comes this hawk which has a shorter tail and tappered wings, and I think peregrine. It drops down and then I see what looks like a harrier. It drops down out of sight and up comes the hawk which looks like a peregrine and it folds the wings back and dives straight down very fast. Now it was very windy and this is not the action of a northern harrier. Then a northern harrier flew right over my head. I would not suspect the two hawks to be in such close proximity. I definitely recorded the harrier, but am still shaking my head as to whether two separate hawks were present. I'm sure there were two, but I did not tick the peregrine as my view was not sufficient to confirm such. If anyone is in that area and can confirm that a peregrine is hunting around there please let me know. James R.
