8 Feb 2007 Hi All, With the recent addition of Yellow-headed Blackbird (video-taped in Port William yesterday), and the Vesper Sparrow on Cape Sable Island, the Nova Scotia winter list has reached 200, just the third time we've reached this benchmark, though we won't be setting any new record. Still, new additions remain possible. If we can pin down the possible Sharp-tailed (or Seaside) sparrows that were seen at Daniel's Head and Conrad's Beach, and if someone can winkle out a Long-eared Owl, Gray Partridge, or King Eider, the list could grow a bit more. The winter web site is: http://www3.ns.sympatico.ca/maybank/other/nswinter.htm We are in second place among the Canadian provinces reporting (all but Ontario). BC is at 235, while Quebec is third with 186, though that total includes 9 species of exotic escaped birds, so it really is only 177. Good birding, and enjoy the depths of winter, ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Blake Maybank Editor, "Nova Scotia Birds" author, "Birding Sites of Nova Scotia" http://maybank.tripod.com/BSNS.htm 144 Bayview Drive White's Lake, Nova Scotia, B3T 1Z1, Canada maybank@ns.sympatico.ca (902) 852-2077 -- No virus found in this outgoing message.
