John & Steve:  I grew up in Scotland after the war and remember well the 
milk bottle caps being pecked through by blue tits.  They didn't have to 
bother so much in winter as the cream often froze, expanded and pushed off 
the aluminium foil.  That provided natural ice cream for the tits and us 
kids, whose treats were very scarce in those lean years.  Thanks for the 
memories!
