Hello,

Just a brief note about some interesting birds seen over the past couple of
days.

Wendy and I took in the Eagle Watch on Sunday and want to thank Jim Wolford
for directing us to the best spot for observing eagles and hawks that we
encountered all day. It was nearly at the end of Middle Dyke Rd, one
"block" west of the Community Hall. I counted at least 55 eagles feeding on
some "fresh" chicken carcasses or observing from trees closeby. I imagine
those with good camera equipment (and there were many of those around) would
have obtained some terrific shots. After "feasting" on the eagles and lunch
at the Kingsport Community Hall (we never seem to get there in time for the
fish chowder but the corn chowder and hamburger soup were great!), we did a
quick tour of Grand Pre. Last week we were able to see the N. Harrier and
the Merlin but only one Longspur! There were no sparrows at all beside the
roadways, so we drove through one of the fields (on the mud roadway). We
put up about a dozen Horned Larks and observed a single Savannah Sparrow.

Yesterday, after a noon hour appointment on University Ave, I decided to
take advantage of the beautiful day by doing a walking tour of some of the
hot spots in Southend Halifax. Finally saw the flock of ~12 House Finches
at 6250 Oakland Rd which I missed on the Sewer Stroll and the only other
noteworthy sightings were an American Robin and a Northern Flicker at Etta
Parker's feeder at the Conrose Field end of Waegwaltic Ave. Her feeder can
be readily observed from the public pathway accessible from Jubilee Ave.

Cheers,

Bob McDonald
Halifax
