I haven't seen earthworms, but I haven't really been out in the garden. However several days ago while picking up wood to bring in to dry and burn I turned up a live spider which I was hoping was dead by now! Two days ago before it rained there were tiny flying insects in the air, which looked a bit like blackflies, but Jim Wolford didn't seem to think that was possible! Anyway, whatever they were, they were quite mobile, and they were not winter crane flies, much too small. JET
