A morning walk on Dec 29 at Crystal Crescent Beach PP saw me witness a sun spike, a solar phenomenon where a flare of light shoots upward from behind a cloud simulating a candle flame. A couple of weeks ago there was a spectacular display which unfortunately I missed since I was driving at the time but I did catch this lesser event on camera. This type of atmospheric event is not the same as the solar spike which occurs on the sun's surface.

I've also posted a few more Sharp-shinned Hawk photos. The Black-capped Chickadees were taunting the raptor from the relative safety of the rose bramble. I say relative safety because the hawk will fly right through it! I do wish this magnificent bird well but I'm hoping it will visit elsewhere for awhile.

The last photos in this series are of the Sandhill Crane from Rhodes Corners this morning.

Hans
