Hi Everyone;

I know it doesn't seem like winter, but tomorrow is December 1, the
official start of the Winter Listing season, which continues through
the end of February.

If you are unfamiliar with the concept, here is a summary from Ryan
Dudragne, of Saskatchewan, where winter listing is more a challenge
than here in Nova Scotia

"For those who may be unfamiliar with the concept, it basically
involves a frenzied search during the first couple of weeks to
squeeze in as many late migrants as possible before the onslaught of
usually more severe weather conditions. Christmas Bird Counts often
jack up our total, as do normal winter activities. Plus, it gives us
birders something to do for the three slowest birding months of the
year other than sitting idle on our hands until March. To me, at
least, a winter list is great for maintaining birding enthusiasm, and
gets a person active and out of the house to ward off the winter
doldrums that tend to creep up mid season."

The URL for the Nova Scotia Winter List is:

http://www3.ns.sympatico.ca/maybank/other/nswinter.htm

There are links to the other provinces (and Iceland) that also play
the game. And if you wish to keep track of your personal winter list
totals, there is a page for that as well.

We set a record for the province last year. What will this winter bring?

Keep checking the web page, and please inform me of any additions to
this winter's list.

Good (winter) birding,
