Hi folks,

Working in my office at home today (in metro HRM) when I was startled
by a large "thwack" against window at face level a meter or so away.
I turned (rather quickly) to find that a Woodcock had collided with
the window. Fortunately there is a nylon-mesh screen over that
portion so it impacted with less force than if it had hit glass. It
sat in the garden below the window looking somewhat disoriented and
blinking.

I watched it for a while and then, concerned about its welfare, I
went outside to take a closer look. Startled, it gave a call and then
flew across the garden to collide with the wall of my neighbour's
house. It bounced off the siding and landed in another part of the
garden looking flustered again. After a short while it took off
again, narrowly missing my garden wall, and flew across the street
where it almost flew into the glass windows of a front porch. It
fluttered momentarily around the front of the house and then flew
into another neighbour's backyard. I wish it well but fear that its
disorientation may lead it to a premature demise from wall, window,
car, or cat. Other than its behaviour it looked to be in excellent
condition.

All the best,

Chris
