PS: I sent this early this afternoon but it seems to have become lost. Try #2, DW Dear All, Nov 2, 2006 I have a small Syrphid (my number A1171) that keys out to _Eumerus_, but M1 does not have an external spur, as required in Nearctic Diptera couplet 56, and the inflated hind femur (length/width in side view of ~4) has strong spines only along an anteroventral ridge on the distal 1/3 as opposed to also having posteroventral spines near the apex. The hind tibia is stout and bowed, with the concave side facing the femur, and is dark brown with a yellow band in the middle that registers with a yellow band on the mostly brown femur. The first hind tarsomere is long and inflated relative to the other tarsomeres. Does any of this ring a bell with anyone ? Is there perhaps a recently introduced _Eumerus_ that doesn't quite fit the 1987 key ? Yours truly, Dve Webster, Kentville
