Hello,

A neighbor of a colleague who lives in Seabright had a 2-second visit from a
hummingbird who seemed to be checking out the flowers in a hanging pot on
their deck. The bird was described as being rather drab and mottled and he
assumed that it was a very late Ruby-throat, likely an immature. I just
spoke with him on the phone and indicated to him that there are other
possibilities. The bird had no rufous feathers at all, so it was probably
not one of the Selasphorus species which we occasionally get. The other
Archilochus hummer (Black-chinned) remains a possibility.

He will put his feeders back out this evening and have his camera close at
hand in case the bird reappears. If it does, he will contact me and I will
post an update promptly. Of course, their regular summer hummers left
around the second week of Sept, and he had taken the feeders down around the
middle of last month.

Cheers,

Bob McDonald,
Halifax
