A good photo and an interesting record. I'll look into this further.  
I have found these stink bugs and have always thought they were  
members of Chlorochroa but Acrosternum hilare is an excellent match.

This isn't a stink bug at all, it is one of the so-called "buffalo- 
treehoppers" in the Membracidae (Hompotera). These were formerly in  
the genus Stictocephala but are now placed in the genus Ceresa. There  
are four species in the Maritimes:

Ceresa diceros (Say)
Ceresa alta Walker
Ceresa basalis Walker
Ceresa borealis Fairmaire

And this one is either Ceresa diceros. See:
