<P>Hello Dave, </P></DIV>
<DIV></DIV>
<P>&nbsp;&nbsp;Although some examples of industrial insensitivity to the environment can be excused by ignorance, this one is simply too egregious for that.&nbsp;&nbsp; The colony was active and nests and young were reportedly destroyed in the process of constructing this road.&nbsp;&nbsp; As well as showing a contempt for the law and the value of wildlife, this action showed totally inadequate planning and environmental impact assessment of the company's activities, and inadequate training of staff or contractors&nbsp;with respect to their environmental responsibilities.&nbsp;&nbsp;Anyone who has been in an active heronry knows that you cannot be there without knowing of its existence.&nbsp;&nbsp;Although some heronries have been mapped by wildlife authorities, the onus is clearly on the forestry companies to find out what environmentally-sensitive areas are within their cutting areas or leases <STRONG>before</STRONG> they destroy them. </P>
<P>&nbsp; The good news is that the company closed the road as soon as the word got out.&nbsp; It remains to be seen whether they will get more than a reprimand from the N. B. or CWS authorities.</P>

<DIV></DIV>Hi All,
<DIV></DIV>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Before forming a boycott it might be a plan to wait until the Wildlife Service investigation has been completed. Was the location of this Heron colony know before the road was built ?
<DIV></DIV>
<DIV></DIV>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;How many new Heron colonies have been located in e.g. N.B. or N.S. by bird watchers over the last decade ? Have known colonies been mapped so logging companies can plan around them ?
<DIV></DIV>

<P>Yours truly, Dave Webster </P>

<DIV></DIV>&gt;In case any of you were making a choice regarding which petrol
<DIV></DIV>&gt;station to patronise, you may wish to read the following article
<DIV></DIV>&gt;regarding the construction of an Irving logging road through the
