I'm sure this is correct. That's how Fred Urquhardt et al. originally  
found the wintering grounds of the Monarchs in Mexico, by tagging  
adult butterflies in North America that were ultimately tracked and  
found in Michoacan in Mexico. The gradual northward migration is one  
that takes place across 2-3 generations; the southward migration is  
done by one.
