Hi All
Today with the wind up a bit for open water, BB and I
went to a long narrow stillwater.
With the grey skies, the red maples and the dark green
of the pines it one of the few days in the year like
this. Reminds me of a day on Peskawa Lake in Keji -
exactly the same kind of day - I done a painting - it
captured the day pretty well. It is now in the
Visitors Centre at the Park if anyone is passing by
that way.
Anyway when we got up to the end of the stillwater, a
black bear ampled across through the woods just where
the stillwater turns into a brook. It didn't seem to
notice us and just walked by. Looked like this years
cub. A beautiful animal with a lovely shinny coat.
As it passed about 30 m away, a wood duck that was at
the end jumped up - not sure if we scared it or the
bear - not to take a chance - it split the difference
and got out of there.
The white pines are shedding last years needles and
soon will be the bright green of winter. Lots of
needles floating in the water.
Dragonflies are still plentiful - big fellows that
land right in the canoe. Also a Monarch flew by -
seems to have been a good year for them.
Anyway - a moose and a bear in a week is sort of a
record for me.
Enjoy the fall
Paul
