Hello,

Before Suzanne and I went for the Green Heron, we spent a few hours at
Hartlen Pt. Sparrows were abundant along the entrance roadways - lots of
Savannahs and Songs, a few White-throats and a Lincoln's. The wooded trails
behind the golf course had been subjected to some brush and tree clearing
and were a real mess in places. But the birds were quite active - 3 species
of vireo including Warbling were seen along with 11 warbler species
including a Pine which Suzanne identified while I walked ahead on the trail.
At least 6, possibly as many as 8, Baltimore Orioles were present and a
single Rose-breasted Grosbeak (Juvenile male) was feeding on the abundant
mountain ash berries as were numerous Cedar Waxwings A Whimbrel called as
it flew over our heads and Yellowlegs could be heard, probably in Back Cove.
We flushed a family of RN Pheasants as we were heading out.

My list shows about 40 species for the morning.

Cheers,

Bob McDonald

P.S. Related to the never-ending thread on Buckthorn, during our short walk
around Russell Lake, we found a small group of Cedar Waxwings feeding on the
berries. Actually, this is the first time I have seen this shrub in the
HRM.
