Hi Everyone; Bob McDonald and I had great looks at the Green Heron today. We also saw a Solitary Sandpiper just a few feet further along. Directions: Take Eisener Drive off Portland Street (the beginning of Route #207), Drive past Norm Newman Drive on your right and the Super Store, NSLC and Nubody's on your left. Across from Nubody's is a path and a wooden staircase accessing the trail, but it's easy to miss. If you drive a little further, past Nubody's, Empire Cinemas and the first Apartment building, you'll see a much more obvious access to the trail. If you follow this trail back towards the Super Store, you'll come to a long wooden bridge on your left. Don't take that (unless you enjoy a nice leisurely walk). Go straight towards the aforementioned wooden staircase, then follow the trail left. A couple of hundred meters along this path you'll see a pond on your left, surrounded by woods. There's a pile of rocks that serve as a bridge across a drainage ditch that will allow you access to the pond. Scan the far shore carefully. Although it's a fairly large bird, the GREEN HERON blends right in with the mud. Cheers; Suzanne P.S. If you cross the long wooden bridge, keep following the trail around to the top (N) of the lake where a smaller body of water can be seen up ahead. Turn right at this point and follow the trail back towards the Super Store. You'll come to the pond with the GREEN HERON on your right after about 50 meters. __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Tired of spam? Yahoo!
