Your photo of # DSCF 6149 is not a cocoon, but the naked pupa of some moth which either did not make it into the ground to pupate and hide or something or someone dug it up. Many caterpillars do not have enough or any silk in which to "wrap" themselves. It is upside down in the picture with the end of what will be the end of the abdomen of the moth pointing up to the left and the lower half is the outline of the tiny wings which will grow and the head and antennae on the very bottom. If you still have this pupa look at the outlines of it carefully and you can make out where some of the structures of the moth are forming. It's a neat little package! JET
