It is very unusual. It is difficult enough for a completely healthy bird
to survive let alone one with a disability. Indeed, it is estimated that
70% of the young of small birds die before they are one year old. The
bird you're observing has obviously been able to overcome this handicap
during the time when it would be most vulnerable, the winter, by taking
advantage of the food available at your feeder.
